Wave For Rhino Charge 2022 — Bolstering our Commitment to the Environment in Africa
Wave is committed to helping the planet and its people, and we have a long track record of doing so. Our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that our success as a company depends on building long-term relationships with our customers, suppliers, communities and employees. We want to help make a difference in ensuring that generations to come enjoy excellent lives rich with nutritious food, clean drinking water and access to nature.
This year Wave is a proud sponsor of CAR 63 for Rhino Charge 2022, an annual off-road 4×4 competition held in Kenya that raises funds to support the activities of the Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust, an NGO which works towards the conservation and protection of Kenya’s mountain range ecosystems, the so-called “Water Towers”.
The Water Towers are mountain ranges that serve as watersheds for rivers that provide water to many communities in Kenya. These mountains also act as natural barriers against desertification and erosion.
Since 1989, the funds raised have been used for the construction of the Aberdare Electric Fence and supporting conservation activities within the Aberdare ecosystem. With Rhino Ark formally committed to supporting conservation in Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu ecosystems, funds raised are now used for fencing these two mountain ecosystems, in addition to maintaining the Aberdare Electric Fence and engaging fence-adjacent communities in conservation.
The competition attracts teams from all over the world who compete across different categories.
The Car 63 team consisted of expert off-road drivers who raced their Landrover 101 through some of Kenya’s most challenging terrain: on the Mount Suswa Conservancy in Mosiro, Kajaido County, roughly a 4-hour drive from Nairobi in the southern rift valley. The team raised more than US$48,000 during their journey which will be used towards the conservation efforts of Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust.
To enhance local participation and be sensitive to local concerns, each competition venue is designed with full community involvement. Rhino Charge event organizers hire local workers to assist in setting up the venue infrastructure, thus providing income-generating activities. This provides a tremendous boost to the host community, as there are few jobs and income-generating activities in these remote regions.
All of us at Wave would like to thank CAR 63 for their incredible effort and congratulate the team for completing the race successfully!
